A Photography Scene From Japan #1-2

Second part

Published in the late 80s and directed by Akira Gomi, renowned author of the Yellows collections, Sh・I・N・C magazine offers innovative approaches of photography and is dedicated to discovering and supporting young artists. From the early 90s he focuses on teaching until 2008, when his career takes a new start with the launch of Interent based ShINC.Project with photograph Alao Yokogi

「ShINC.Project」’s first exhibition “Buy and sell photos 3,000 yen (30dollars)” offers original prints for a modest price. This unique experiment sparks off controversial reactions, stirring up interest among artists and drawing critics from conventional resellers. In Japan where the photography market is still rather young, what will be the consequences of an exhibition that sets for original prints prices that anyone can afford? Constructed around interviews of Gomi and Yokogi, this documentary shot from a photographer’s point of view follows the project from the preparations to the opening party.
